Have an idea that isn't on the list? Let's talk. If you can dream it, we can probably build it.

How long will it take to build and install my project?

Once your project is scheduled, most projects take approximately one week to build and 1–2 days to install, depending on the size and scope of the project.

Please note that this does not mean your project is built the week we receive your inquiry. As a small team, we are typically booked months in advance, and projects are scheduled in the order they are received.

We also subcontract weekly builds for a larger company, which can impact our availability and lead times. For larger-scale projects, we may refer your project to that company if it allows us to get you on the schedule sooner.

What is the process like when working with MT Trim Co.?

  1. Consultation: We start with a free, in-person consultation where we discuss your vision, measure your space (twice!), and look for the site-specific details we'll need to create a design that works for your home.

  2. Design & Quote: From there, we draft a design and provide a quote, which is valid for 30 days. Every project is custom quoted because every space is unique. From the size to the design and material choices, it's impossible to do standard pricing.

  3. Scheduling: Once you approve the design and quote, we'll work together to determine an installation date.

  4. Deposit & Final Payment: A 50% deposit invoice will be sent, which is due two weeks before your scheduled installation date. The remaining 50% balance is due upon completion on the day of installation.

  5. Installation: We build what we can in advance (e.g., cabinet boxes, shelves, doors, mantels), and deliver and install on the installation day. We cut the details on site. We will send you an email in advance to determine the best place to do so (e.g., patio, garage, driveway).

Do you offer painting?

Our specialty is custom carpentry, so we don't provide painting services. For painted projects, we'll build and prepare the piece for finishing, and you can either handle the painting yourself or hire a painting or finishing professional.

What if I already have a design? Can you just build it?

Absolutely! We're happy to work from your existing design, whether you created it yourself, found inspiration online or used AI to help bring your idea to life. We will still need to measure the space in person before building.

Why? Because a design or rendering doesn't always account for the realities of the space or how a piece will actually be built. We'll look at details like outlets, baseboards, crown molding, stud locations, wall straightness, clearances and other site-specific conditions that may not be reflected in a drawing or rendering.

We'll work with you to determine what can be built as designed and, when necessary, make adjustments so the finished project is both beautiful and functional. Our goal is to make sure the design works in the real world, and that it fits! If you choose to provide your own measurements, MT Trim Co. cannot be responsible for inaccuracies in those measurements, so we should measure twice and build once.

Do you offer shipping?

Not at this time. Because our projects are custom-built and can be large and heavy, they aren't practical to ship.

If you're outside our service area, we encourage you to support a local carpenter in your community. We regularly feature talented tradespeople from across the country through our Made True series, which can be a great place to start your search.

Do you trim out entire homes?

While we have the experience and know-how to handle whole-home trim, that's no longer our focus. Today, MT Trim Co. specializes in custom-built projects and the details that make a space uniquely yours.

Do you work directly with homeowners, interior designers or builders?

All of the above, actually! We work directly with homeowners as well as interior designers, builders and other industry professionals. Whether you have a fully developed design or just an idea you're trying to bring to life, we're happy to talk through your project and determine how we can help.
